Dobry works multidisciplinary across photography, video, performance and installation to engage in a practice committed to the investigation of queer experiences. Through self-reflectivity, historical research and constructed fictional narratives, they work to explore queer identity and gendered deviance within the context of the body. Interested in fragmentation and the distortion of time, Dobry specifically employs a mixture of analog and digital modes of making to place viewers in a suspended reality, referencing both the past and the present to create new queer worlds with the camera. Their cross-use of mediums reflect the ways in which queerness is a fluid and expansive realm, and is informed by surrounding environments. Thinking about connections to nature, technology, spirituality and Catholicism, they are interested in the ways in which forces of power exert themselves into our lives, and how queerness can distort these powers.
